Breast Cancer

In Kenya, breast cancer occurrence is increasing, and those affected are relatively younger compared to those in Western countries. Breast cancer was the most diagnosed kind of cancer among women in Nairobi between the year 2000 and 2002, with most of these women below the age of fifty years. Although incidences are low when compared to the western countries, breast cancer mortality in Kenya is relatively high. To many Kenyan women, a diagnosis of breast cancer is therefore a death sentence, as most patients present with advanced disease when the cost of treatment is high and chances of survival limited. This then reinforces the mistaken believe that breast cancer is incurable. In this documentary, we meet the women who have proved that breast cancer is indeed curable.
